Blythe Elementary School was chosen for this years playground build because it had the oldest equipment in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School district and the school was in desperate need. With nearly 1,200 students, Blythe is one of the largest elementary schools in the district.
Earlier this year, SAKRETE® presented the Carolina Panthers with a $10,000 check for the SAKRETE® Sack™ Program, which benefits the Charlotte-area Business Volunteer Council (BVC), a coalition of local businesses that promote volunteerism. The BVC in turn uses these donations for the Charlotte Playground Build Program, which celebrated its 14th playground build this year.
Students had a hand in the design of the playground when they joined teachers, their principal and members of the build team earlier this year to sketch out their wishes!
This 1-day playground build will be finished by end of day today with the help of SAKRETE® and more than 15 other sponsoring businesses, and 130 volunteers coming together to make the new playground a reality for Blythe Elementary School.
In addition to the monetary donations, SAKRETE® made in-kind product donations consisting of:
- 16 volunteers to help with the construction
- 280 bags of SAKRETE® Fast-Setting Concrete Mix to secure the playground equipment in place
- More than 1,650 bags of mulch provided by sister company Oldcastle Lawn and Garden, used to finish off the build
Along with the new playground build, Blythe Elementary will receive other outdoor improvements today. Items such as picnic tables, bench and flower box seating areas and landscaping improvements around the facility.
