One of the most exciting plays in football is when a defensive player breaks through the line and sacks the quarterback. Sakrete is partnering with six professional football teams this season for the second-annual Sakrete Sack™ Program. The Carolina Panthers, New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, San Diego Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, and Atlanta Falcons are the participating teams. At the end of the season, the player with the most sacks from each participating team will have $5,000 donated in his name to HomeAid, a leading national non-profit provider of housing for the homeless. The overall league sack leader will have $10,000 donated in his name to HomeAid.
Last year, Shawne Merriman, defensive end/outside linebacker for the San Diego Chargers, was named the Sakrete Sack league leader, registering 16.5 quarterback sacks during the regular season. Julius Peppers of the Carolina Panthers, Brandon Moore of the San Francisco 49ers, and Osi Umenyiora of the New York Giants were the sack leaders of their respective teams. The 2006 regular season ended with Sakrete awarding America's charities with $12,500 earned through the Sakrete Sack™ Program.
"We are pleased to continue our relationship with these professional football teams to help tackle homelessness," said Johnsie Beck, president of Sakrete of North America, LLC. "Sakrete has a lot in common with these teams. We share the same values of giving back to the community, and we believe that Sakrete products offer the same level of professionalism as these professional players. This charitable program allows us to make a positive impact on both the local and national levels because the money goes directly into these teams' communities."
